Rumors on the internet bag, a lot of them end up being lies made up to just to fool people while others turn out to be true. There was an infamous leak back in 2014 that revealed Microsoft’s entire E3 line-up early in that year, so internet rumors/leaks can turn out to be true. The latest leak/rumor on the Xbox side of things comes from Reddit and is largely about the future of Killer Instinct with a tidbit on Perfect Dark and Conker too.
The post starts out by saying that Microsoft has been incredibly surprised with the success of Killer Instinct. The leak says that Microsoft is thinking about creating a full fledged sequel to the game instead of more seasons, though the leaker thinks it would launch on the next Xbox console instead of the Xbox One. This is reasonable as most big fighting game franchises seem to only have one or two entries a generation now, as the fighting game community likes to dig deep into a game before moving onto a new one.
The poster says that the original Killer Instinct‘s boss, Eyedol, won’t be in Season 3. This falls in line with previous comments from Ken Lobb and Iron Galaxy stating that the character won’t be included. This may disappoint some old school fans, but apparently one of the new characters will “definitely make up for fans who are disappointed with Eyedol not being included.” The leaker then goes on to say that Shadow Orchid will be the last official character in the season. However, Microsoft is apparently open to another kickstarter like the one for Shadow Jago with “Retro Stages, Costumes/Skins, Guest characters and definitely Ultimates” being considered.
The leaker then goes into detail on how the rest of Killer Instinct Season 3 will play out. He states that Gears of Wars’s General RAAM will be revealed at E3, specifically during their E3 presentation but that could easily change, the character has already been leaked so that’s no big news. However, the leaker says RAAM’s inclusion isn’t because of fan demand or Iron Galaxy wanting him in but because Microsoft wanted him in to help promote Gears of War 4. This is interesting because it shows Microsoft sees the game as a way to promote other games, any future guest characters in the series could be included for similar reasons. The leaker also adds in that Gears of War 2‘s Skorge was considered at one point, but the team went for the more iconic pick.
Perhaps the juiciest bit from this leak is that Microsoft is apparently working on a new Perfect Dark game. The game is supposed to bring the series back to its roots and delve into Joanna Dark’s past. Joanna Dark was considered to be included into Killer Instinct Season 3 but General RAAM was chosen instead of her because Joanna “wouldn’t have a big impact as much as RAAM”. It seems like the Perfect Dark game is having some production issues however as the leaker says “I was really pushing for it to hit the market this year. E3 2015- E3 2016 was suppose to be the revival of Rare”; we can only hope that if leak is real, that any problems Perfect Dark is having will get fixed.
The leaker goes onto mention a bit about Conker. The leaker says that the Project Spark was meant for Conker, but Microsoft couldn’t find a developer yet still wanted the game out in a short amount of time. So it seems like the poor squirrel is either back into development hell or on the shelf again.
Another exciting bit of info regards Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat crossing over. The idea of Scorpion being in Killer Instinct Season 2 was talked about, as well as Fulgore appearing in a third set of DLC for Mortal Kombat X. The leaker says Fulgore coming to Mortal Kombat X isn’t a sure thing, but there have been talks for a full game Mortal Kombat/Killer Instinct crossover game. Perhaps Iron Galaxy and Neatherrealm aren’t doing the individual crossovers to save some hype for the main crossover?
It is wise to take all of this with a grain of salt until it is proven real. However, the leaker said something that might be confirmed soon. He says that Gargos will have a cinematic intro for the upcoming Shadow Lords mode and that we will get a glimpse of it in the trailer for Gargos. We should be seeing the trailer for him soon and when we do, we will see whether or not this leak is real.
Killer Instinct is available now for Xbox One and Windows 10.
