Eiji Aonuma producer and manager of the Legend of Zelda series set imaginations wild and sparked a small fan-fire with hinting at a possible Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD remake for the Nintendo Switch. During the Legend of Zelda: Concert 2018 in Japan, Eiji Aonuma made the remark “I know what you’re waiting for – Skyward Sword for Switch. Right?”. That was enough to send people to their favorite sites to start up the rumor mill.
Unfortunately Legend of Zelda fans that is not the case. A Nintendo Rep told Eurogamer earlier today that “At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch”. That should be enough to put the rumor mill to rest at the moment.
While Nintendo seems to be dropping a Legend of Zelda title yearly on the Switch-with Breath of the Wild in 2017 and Hyrule Warriors in 2018 (I can’t remember if they said they were going to try and make this their goal, I’m wanting to say yes), it doesn’t look like it’s going to be Skyward Sword if the yearly release schedule is valid. If it is I personally hope it’s an HD remake of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask on one Switch cartridge. A person is allowed to dream aren’t they?
If Nintendo shows up for the Game Awards this year maybe they’ll go ahead and tell us what they have up their sleeves? Also for all we know the rumor mill could be true and Nintendo just doesn’t want to admit it. The Game Awards is just around the corner so luckily there’s not a lot of time to wait.
