It has been nearly three years since Quantum Break has been released and the developer of the narrative heavy adventure – Remedy Entertainment – has not spent the time sitting idly. They have in fact been hard at work on their newest experience. As you probably know, it is called Control and it looks like the game will launch later this year. A specific release date has not yet been announced but if I had to guess, I would say that Control will launch during the holiday shopping season. Even better, the fine folks over at Game Informer got to spend some time playing the game and it seems we are in for a different kind of experience than we would normally expect from Remedy Entertainment.
You won’t be manipulating time or fighting the darkness with light this time around but Control does give you several ways to use supernatural forces to do your bidding. “Here, we have shifted our goal so that we have more complex scenarios with our different abilities and you choose the way you want to fight,” said Mikael Kasurinen, the game’s director. One especially neat trick you will be able to perform is levitation – and then slamming your enemies from above.
Another break from previous games by Remedy Entertainment is the implementation of non-linear progression. You will find certain Objects of Power which grant your character (Jesse) new powers. As is usual with so-called “Metroidvanias”, these abilities can help you to access new areas of the game. “As you go through the campaign and through the world, you get a higher clearance and you can go back to these areas that you had to skip initially. On top of that, we have also areas that are limited by the ability you have, for instance, levitation,” offered Kasurinen.
