Patrick Stewart describes new Picard series as a “10-hour movie”

While Star Trek: Discovery moves ahead with its second season the powers that be remain hard at work at a new series featuring the respected Jean-Luc Picard. As you may know, Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as the good captain for an all new story set years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. “I heard just enough to realize this was something very unusual, and I was intrigued. What I was afraid of was … this was going to be jokey, and I didn’t want to do that.’ I asked a lot of questions and the answers were all very satisfying,” said Stewart.

Our friends over at Yahoo have managed to get a few more tidbits of information about the new show from Stewart. It seems that the Picard series will not tell self-contained stories in each episode as was the case with Star Trek” The Next Generation. There will instead be a long story arc that will explored over the course of the entire season. “They are writing a 10-hour movie,” Stewart offered.

So let us summarize everything we know about the new show so far:

  • Patrick Stewart will once again play Jean-Luc Picard
  • The show takes place well after Nemesis and in fact ties in with the destruction of Romulus shown in the 2009 movie
  • Picard will not be a Starfleet captain
  • The show will have a long story arc throughout the first season
  • This is entirely speculation on my part but I believe the new show will not be set upon a single starship as is often the case with Star Trek shows. Ten hours seems a bit short though – will this be a mini-series?

Will there be more adventures for Picard after this series is released? “We’re hoping for more than one season,” Stewart offered.
