We Happy Few, the survival game set in a ‘alternate 1960s’ will be made into a feature film. The adaptation will be a collaboration between Gold Circle Films, DJ2 Entertainment, along with  the original developers, Compulsion Games.
DJ2 told Variety that they were “immediately drawn to its unique world, aesthetic and characters”, having seen the game before release. You may have heard of DJ2, because it was recently announced that they’re also working on another video game adaptation, Sleeping Dogs.
It’s certainly a choice with potential for a movie. We Happy Few has an extremely distinctive art style and a compelling setting. The game is set in an English town in the 1960s, just not the ’60s from our history books. In this world, the government mandates the use of happiness drugs which keep the masses placated yet seriously lacking in morality.
Producer Dmitri M. Johnson (DJ2) said of the project:Â “Our commitment is to make a movie that remains true to and expands on its great source material.”
Guillaume Provost, head of Compulsion Games, added that DJ2 Entertainment:
“…approached us enthusiastically and with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film, while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes. We’re gratified at how they and Gold Circle have taken to the project.”
