Xbox One owners who are starved for some honest-to-goodness Japanese role-playing games for their console have a ray of hope shining down on them from the heavens. The legendary Falcom game, Ys Origin is coming to Xbox One soon thanks to DotEmu, a company known for releasing older games on modern platforms.
Released for PC way back in 2006 and subsequently ported to the PlayStation 4 and Vita last year, Ys Origin represents the earliest story in the series so far. The land of Ys was once a beautiful paradise on the island of Esteria until it was attacked my massive demons. In a desperate move to protect the people of Ys, the twin goddesses of the land ripped the kingdom from the world and raised it high into the sky. The demons constructed Darm Tower – a bastion of evil – so that they could wage war on the risen land of Ys. During the conflict, the twin goddesses vanished, prompting the priests of the land to search the tower for a clue as to their fate.
Ys Origin lets you choose from the different characters to use in the game. Yunica is a melee fighter who plays in a hack-and-slash style. Hugo Fact is an arrogant mage with ranged attacks while the Claw is a shady character who attacks rapidly with appropriately themed… claws.
I have Ys Origin on Steam and I’m going to double dip on this one. If you want to see more Japanese RPGs on Xbox One then please consider supporting this game.
