The June 2018 NPD numbers have officially been released, and the numbers show that the industry is growing steadily. The games industry earned roughly $1.08 billion dollars which is up a whopping 25% from last year. This is due in large part to record-breaking numbers in both headsets and controllers, as they grew over 38% to a whopping $353 million up from $255 million.
Here are your numbers for the month of June:
- Total:Â $1.08 billion (up 25 percent from $864 million in June 2017)
- Hardware:Â $350 million (up 52 percent from $231 million)
- PC and console software:Â $374 million (down 1 percent from $379 million)
- Accessories:Â $353 million (up 38 percent from $255 million)
In comparison to 2017, 2018 continues to grow with year over year growth. Here are you year over year numbers.
- Total:Â $6.02 billion (up 17 percent from $5.15 billion in 2017 year to date)
- Hardware:Â $1.69 billion (up 21 percent from $1.39 billion)
- PC and console software:Â $2.56 billion (up 6 percent from $2.41 billion)
- Accessories:Â $1.77 billion (up 31 percent from $1.36 billion)
In the software side of things, God of War continues to dominate the charts only being topped by Mario Tennis Aces. God of War has officially become the 2nd best selling game of 2018 trailing Far Cry 5. Mario Tennis Aces is no slouch though, already breaking the record for the fastest selling first month of Nintendo’s Tennis franchises. This is even without digital sales via the E-shop being included in NPD’s tracking.
