This weekend the hero Shazam took over the box office from Dumbo. The movie opened with a healthy $53 million this weekend. Pet Sematary even opened with a respectable $25 million this weekend.
Currently Shazam is sitting at $158 million world-wide. Given that the Avengers: Endgame is right around the corner don’t expect this movie to get over $500 million in the next two weeks. Since this character may not be as well know at Superman or Batman the final numbers should guarantee a sequel. Also the reviews for this film have been better than expected, that will also help factor in any future movies. Pet Sematary was able to top the original movies opening weekend with $25 million. Actually this version had a better opening weekend than the original and sequel combined. I doubt we will stop seeing new versions of classic Steven Kings work in the future. It:Chapter 2 will be coming out this September.

Four movies will be coming out next weekend that have the chance to take the top spot. The animated film Missing Link, After, Little, and finally Hellboy will all be coming out. Did you watch the first trailer for Joker? It never hurts to take another look. Captain Marvel is sitting pretty with over $1 billion at the theaters.
