The January 2019 NPD numbers have been released, so let’s take a look at this month’s results. According to VentureBeat and NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, Kingdom Hearts III topped the charts as the number one game for January, the first time a Kingdom Hearts game has done so. Resident Evil 2 also performed extremely well and was the second-highest on the charts.
The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling console for January 2019. Additionally, it was the only console that showed growth year-over-year. With that said, hardware sales were still down year-over-year.
Here are the numbers for January 2019 NPD:
- Total: $893 million (Down 19% from $1,101 million in January 2018)
- Hardware: $199 million (down 28% from $278 million)
- PC and console software: $427 million (down 18% compared to $520 million)
- Accessories: $267 million (down 12% from $303 million)
