Hobbs & Shaw Race to the top of the Box Office

This past weekend Hobbs & Shaw took over the top over the box office. The movie grossed an estimated $60.8 million in its opening weekend. At the moment the movie is sitting around $180 million world-wide. This is only $20 million shy of the movies budget. Expect Hobbs & Shaw to gross about $500 million before the movie leaves the theater. The movie dwarfed the recent release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A movie I was hoping would really take over the box office.

The Lion King added another $38.2 million to its world-wide total. That movie sits at $1.1 billion as it continues to add money to Disney’s 2019 coffers. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood still has the chance to make some good money domestically as it sits at $78 million. The movie will open up in the foreign market later this month.

Weekend Top Three

3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood $20 million

2. The Lion King $38.2 million

1. Hobbs & Shaw $60.8 million

Next weekend a few movies will be released that can take over the top three spots. Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and The Kitchen. It looks like the Summer movie season is coming to an end. The next really big movie looks like it will It: Chapter 2. That movie won’t be released until September 6th. After that we don’t have much time until Joker is released in October.
