This weekend Venom opened in theaters across the country. The movie grossed an estimated $80 million and it managed to break a few October records as well. The record for best October opening weekend was originally held by the movie Gravity(2013) at $55.7 million. Can Venom continue to dominate through next weekend?
Despite some great competition this weekend, the movie A Star is Born featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper opened with strong numbers. Even with the fans trying to cause some pain to Venom by giving out fake reviews, A Star is Born opened with $41.2 million. The animated family film Smallfoot took third with $14.9 million. While Venom had a great domestic opening, the movie had an even better opening around the world. At this moment the movie is sitting at $205 million worldwide. One of our editors took the time to watch the movie last Thursday. Please take a look at our review of Venom.

4. Night School $12.2 million
3. Smallfoot $14.9 million
2. A Star is Born $41.2 million

Next weekend three movies will come out that could possibly take the top spot. Goosebumps 2, First Man, and Bad Times at The El Royale. October should be a strong month for the box office with this fantastic weekend. It looks like streaming services haven’t completely broken the theaters. Hopefully everyone has a great week as we get even closer to the December release of Aquaman.
