Guinness World Records Has Removed Billy Mitchell’s Records

In the wake of Billy Mitchell losing all of his records under Twin Galaxies leaderboards, the Guinness World Records has announced they will also be tossing out those records. Kotaku has reported that since Twin Galaxies is the original organization that held the records, and that since they have a working relationship with Guinness, it was no issue to remove the records.

Now, the controversy surrounding Billy Mitchell has always been with regards to the fact that he used a modified game card called Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) when he played Donkey Kong and other games. For years, many players have claimed that he had cheated. Now after an extensive investigation by the Twin Galaxies Administration, the truth has been set free. Jeremy Young had claimed that an original board was never used for Billy’s high scores. Using any modified board when playing for a record with Twin Galaxies is a violation of their rules.

We also recognize records for First perfect score on Pac-Man and Highest score on Pac-Man. Twin Galaxies was the original source of verification for these record titles and in line with their decision to remove all of Mr. Mitchell’s records from their system, we have disqualified Mr. Mitchell as the holder of these two records.

As of now we are waiting to see what Mr. Mitchell will say about his records being taken down. He is supposed to release a statement regarding this situation. Currently he is attending the Midwest Gaming Classic. Once we have more on this story, we will let you know.
