In an incredible move I’ll admit I didn’t see coming, Xbox announced today that all Microsoft Studios Exclusives will be added to the Xbox Game Pass library on day one. For example, when Sea of Thieves launches worldwide on March 20th, 2018, it’ll be available for all Xbox Game Pass subscribers.

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, had this to say on Major Nelson’s Blog:
We’ve only scratched the surface of the opportunity this new model brings to the industry and what we can deliver to our fans. We firmly believe Xbox Game Pass will be a catalyst to create new opportunities for game developers and publishers to innovate in the way games are developed and delivered, leading to entirely new ways to play.
We’re truly humbled by the incredible response we’ve received to date for Xbox Game Pass, and we look forward to offering an unprecedented choice and value with Xbox Game Pass this spring and beyond.
For gamers who don’t want to worry about a monthly subscription, a new 6-month option for Xbox Game Pass will be available starting on March 20th, 2018.
This adds truly incredible value to Xbox Game Pass. While it’ll be interesting to see how this affects sales of games at launch, something tells me Game Pass subscriptions might be about to go through the roof. Having all Microsoft Studios Exclusives in the library at launch should also help increase their playerbase sizes and longevity.
