Ys Seven Is Coming to Steam This Summer

XSEED Games announced on Friday during a livestream that they are bringing Ys Seven to PC/Steam sometime this summer.

Ys Seven originally released in 2010 for the PSP. It received a PC port in China in 2012, but this is a new contracted port.

Joyoland had posted Ys Memories of Celceta, Ys Seven, Zero no Kiseki, and Ao no Kiseki to Steam Greenlight several months ago. Joyoland was the developer of the Chinese ports of these titles, and from the descriptions, these titles were all in both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. However, shortly after being Greenlit, they mysteriously vanished from Steam. Perhaps this new port is why. XSEED mentioned that the game will receive some localization adjustments, will run at 60 FPS, and have some visual upgrades.

When originally released, the game received generally positive reviews. Ryan Clements from IGN had praised the game’s skill and battle system, calling it “unlike any JRPG I’ve played in recent memory. Even more surprising are the game’s boss encounters, which require extreme focus to beat.” He also noted that the music is “very enjoyable” and that, while the story is simple, the sincerity “keeps it from being boring”. RPGamer awarded Ys Seven “Best PSP RPG of 2010”.
