Review – Metrico+ Out on Steam

So many great games have coming to players through Steam lately. The service is really letting all kinds of game developers bring some great stuff to the table. Many players may recognize this game that I’m reviewing. The first Metrico came out on the PS4 and Playstation Vita. Metrico+ is available to for those players that need to have this game on every platform.

Gameplay

Metrico + is a game designed around infographics. Every little movement you make will affect some part of the game. Imagine you’re walking up to a large wall. To get this wall lowered a level you have to walk backwards. You will also have to figure out how to prevent that wall from reaching a point where it will be impossible to climb over. The whole game is built for your to think about the actions you are making and I found it to be extremely refreshing.

The controls are very simple as most side scrolling games can be. Running and jumping are key to success in this game. I forgot to mention patience is also a key to success in this game. Without that bit of patience you’re not going to do well.

I give the gameplay an 8.5 out of 10.

Visuals

This game is very simplistic in term of the visuals. My wife is used to playing games like Destiny or Elder Scrolls Online. When she saw what I was playing, she commented that this game ” Looks Dumb”. She never tried to play it or even pay attention to what was going on. She has been conditioned to think all games need to sport flashy visuals. In my opinion, this game is as beautiful as they come. The colors used in this game really cause you to get sucked into the world around your character. It also helps that the music is really good.

I give the visuals an 9 out of 10.

Audio

The audio in this game changes as you play. It adapts to the level and how you jump or run. Not every level has that going for it. Some times you do just get a generic EDM background that sucks you in to the game. Wearing headphones helps with that, it doesn’t work to well with just normal speakers. Overall the sound in this game will keep you playing even if you don’t think about it when looking for music. Even though I don’t get all the time in the world to play No Man’s Sky I still listen to the soundtrack.

I give the audio in this game an 8 out of 10.

Verdict

The game is something everyone should play at least once. The puzzles in this game mixed with the visuals and music will suck you in. Some of the frustration that comes with not knowing what to do next makes this a great game. I can only hope that the next game in the Metrico world is something larger for more players to enjoy at one time together. Overall I recommend this game to anyone looking for a good time trying to solve some intriguing puzzles.
