Microsoft To Bring Movies & TV Libraries To Mobile; Movies Anywhere

Microsoft has been hard at work to make their digital Movies & TV store available on iOS and Android devices according to an article by Zac Bowden over at Windows Central. One possible reason for this move is to make Microsoft’s service more attractive to buyers – it is becoming a hard sell to buy movies on the Windows 10 store if you can only watch them on Windows 10 PCs, Xbox consoles or Hololens while competing services offer movies that can be watched on several different platforms. By bringing their Movies & TV store to iOS & Android you could watch your purchased content on your Smart TV, your iPad or even your Android phone.

Microsoft may also return to the Movies Anywhere program. For those of you who may not be familiar with Movies Anywhere, it is a joint effort between Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., Universal and 20th Century Fox. When you buy a qualifying digital movie from one of these studios it can be watched on Google Play, iOS, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video or Fandango Now. Xbox was one of the original platforms on the Movies Anywhere roster but the platform was quietly dropped. Microsoft executives have stated that they were in talks to rejoin Movies Anywhere meaning the content you have purchased on Google Play or another participating platform could show up in your Microsoft library.
