Nintendo News Roundup: Week of August 15th

What’s up everybody and welcome to the Nintendo News Roundup. Did you miss any of the news regarding Nintendo this week? Well look no further. Here you’ll find the important news, not so important news, and Nintendo things that are just news to me.

New Pokémon shown off at Gamescom

Here’s your obligatory new Pokémon trailers. Nintendo had five new Pokémon to show off during Gamescom. The five Pokémon Nintendo showed off are: Turtonator a Fire/Dragon type, Crabrawler a Fighting type, Sandygast and its evolved form Palossand a Ghost/Ground type, and finally Stufful a Normal/Fighting type. Sadly there were no Alolan forms of Gen one Pokémon. You can check them out in the trailers below.

MLB finalizes Nintendo’s sale of majority share in the Seattle Mariners

On August 19, Nintendo of America’s sale of its majority share of the Seattle Mariners was approved by Major League Baseball. The interest of the team was sold to other members of the current ownership group, First Avenue Entertainment LLLP (FAE). Nintendo of America will retain 10 percent stake in the team and regional sports network. As part of the sale, John Stanton will replace current Chairman and CEO, Howard Lincoln. Stanton will also be the designated Major League Baseball Control Person for the franchise. Howard Lincoln will remain on the FAE Board of Directors as Nintendo’s representative.

If Nintendo of America having owned a majority of the Seattle Mariners is news to you. You should check out this article by Mike McKay that he wrote back in May for the Seattle Times. It’s an interesting little history lesson on how former CEO of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, saved the Seattle Mariners back in 1992.

Mario Party: Star Rush gets new box art

Nintendo went the smart route and decided to ditch the old box art for Mario Party: Star Rush for the Nintendo 3DS. The box art was shown off at Gamescom. The first box art for the game was actually a recycled image that Nintendo used for a Spaghetti-O’s can. Mario Party: Star Rush is set to release November 4 of this year.

First 4 Figures has new Wind Waker statue up for pre-order

Link on The King of Red Lions is now available for pre-order from First 4 Figures. The statue comes in a regular edition as well as an exclusive edition. The difference is the exclusive edition has LED’s that pulse; giving the impression of flowing water. Both are still available but you’ll want to pre-order as soon as you can so scrounge up the money, they are quite expensive. These statues usually go fairly quick and the stock is limited. Here are some details about the statue via First 4 Figures:

Standing at 25 inches tall from the tip of the mast to the base, making it one of the largest pieces in the entire Zelda lines from First 4 Figures.

Comes in deluxe full-color packaging, hand numbered base and an authenticity card that allows you to purchase the same product number for future pieces in the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker series.
