A few months ago we got a look at some rough concept art for fan favourite mutant Angel. We knew that he would be appearing in 2016’s X-Men Apocolypse alongside younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm. As well as this we also know that he will be one of the villain’s four horsemen.
Today then, Bryan Singer posted a photo of a scene involving the X-Man to Instagram. The scene in question looks remarkably similar to another piece of concept art from earlier in the year. In this piece Angel is trapped and on display in a gigantic glass cage with an announcer up on stage seemingly introducing him to the audience.
The shot of filming in progress has a much darker feel to it than the original art but the scene may also have changed. Singer’s caption for the photo reads: “#eastberlin #1982 #fightclub #benhardy #angel #xmen #xmenapocalypse” and what’s interesting here is that not only do we now know where this scene takes place but, also that it’s inside a fight club. In the comics Warren Kenneth Worthington III a.k.a Angel lost his wings in a incident involving mutant-on-mutant violence, making it one of the most tragic scenes in X-Men comic history. It would be logical then that in the leap to film Warren may loose his wings in a fighting pit in East Berlin. Gruesome but it paves the way for his eventual transformation into Archangel a photo of whom is shown above.
