Yooka-Laylee Gameplay Shown Off

Playtonic Games’s spiritual successor to Banjo-KazooieYooka-Laylee, was recently shown off at E3 and there has been a couple of off-screen videos taken of it. The videos all feature the same demo, a preview of the game’s jungle level which we’ve previously seen brief gameplay snippets of.

The videos shown don’t have the players doing much, which is most likely due to how early on in development the game is, but they do showcase a decent amount of the characters’ movesets; Yooka and Laylee spin around to defeat enemies, roll-up into a ball to both move around faster/defeat enemies and they can fly around the level.

It’s quite impressive on how good Yooka-Laylee looks already, despite the game only being in production for a couple of months. The game’s graphics are already polished and the game could be absolutely stunning when finally released.

Seeing Yooka-Laylee gameplay is a breath of fresh air for fans of 3D platformers who were disappointed by the lack of any new games from both Microsoft (Banjo-Kazooie, Conker) AND Nintendo (Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby). It seems that the guys over at Playtonic may have a bit of a monopoly on the genre if Microsoft and Nintendo don’t act soon.

Yooka-Laylee recently reached the end of its Kickstarter where it garnered over three million dollars in about two months; the Kickstarter was able to reach all of its Stretch Goals which included all possible DLC being free. Yooka-Laylee is set to be released on the Xbox One, Wii U, Play Station 4 and PC in the fall of 2016.
