Microsoft announced late last week that all Windows Insiders that are actively testing the Windows 10 build by having it installed on their systems and linked to their Microsoft accounts will get the final build of Windows 10 when it launches on July 29th.
Gabe Aul noted that once the build is finalized it will be distributed to all Windows Insiders through the normal Windows Update path and will remain activated. However it remained unclear if the license will be issued for that said PC through Microsoft. Microsoft did confirm that when you install the upgrade through Windows Update it will remain activated and genuine. A clean install can then be executed through the normal Windows Refresh system on Windows 10.
As a side note, the update will not come with an official OEM/Genuine license key as normal Windows builds do. Your Microsoft account will be linked to the free update and when you clean install via ISO, the license will be activated. So to receive your free activation you will need to have your Windows Insider linked Microsoft account connected to your PC. Local accounts will not be supported.
Gabe Aul recommended that all Windows Insiders who are registered in the program connect their Microsoft accounts to the latest Windows 10 build 10130 as soon as possible so that their servers can link the activations to your said accounts before the final build is delivered on July 29th.
