E3 2015 is all but done and dusted, and we’re on our way to Gamescom next month. But who really won the E3 conference based on numbers alone. We do know that the media in general called Sony the winner, and our resident writers thought Bethesda was the best take away from the conference.
Microsoft showed exclusive after exclusive game, surprised the world with backwards compatibility and gave hardcore gamers what they wanted. But was it enough? Based on Twitch.tv the platform on which most people watched the conference, the Microsoft held show garnered the highest viewership of all the conferences, with EA coming in at a distant second.
But that’s not all, Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram showed that the Xbox platform dominated the conversation with over 70% of mentions and posts being about the Xbox. Other platforms barely registered as being anything out of the ordinary.
Still not convinced? Well NPD recently revealed that the Xbox One was the highest selling console during that week with sales jumping 79%. Microsoft didn’t win the month, due to Batman however. But it shows that Microsoft was consistently at the top of the charts when it comes to metrics that matter i.e Mindshare, Sales and actual Exclusive Games that will ship soon.
Microsoft revealed exclusive games that will ship this year including Gears of War Ultimate, Halo 5, Forza 6, Fable Legends, Rare Replay, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. They also showed games like Gears 4, Recore and will blow our minds even more during the Gamescom conference in Germany next month with games such as Scalebound, Crackdown and Quantum Break all coming early next year.
So based on pure metrics and common sense, Microsoft walked away the biggest winner from the conference. Sales of their console is quickly catching up to their rivals in the market that really matters, and by the end of this year we may (or may not) be in a completely different situation than right now. Now we can call Microsoft the winner with confidence. And you cannot dispute that, because it’s based in fact and not emotional attachment.
