This weekend Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is possibly no longer on top of the box office. Alien: Covenant narrowly took the top spot this weekend. Now as I write this the totals are really just an estimate, the full numbers wont be out until later. Currently though Guardians has made more money on Sunday which could change everything.
I won’t really delve into which movie makes it on the top at the moment. I will just have to update this article once everything is final. Alien: Covenant brings in $36 million while the other films that where released this weekend barely scratched the surface. Aliens worldwide total now is sitting at $117 million. This could be good for fans that really want more movies. I doubt the movie will be getting over $500 million this summer, but I can always hope. The Marvel juggernaut is passing $7oo million worldwide, it may not make that billion mark after all.
Weekend Top Five ( Estimated)
5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 4 $7.2 million
4. Snatched $7.6 million
3. Everything, Everything $12 million
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 $35 million
1. Alien: Covenant $36 million
As you can see from the list above some of the movies that have been released are just not bringing people into the theaters. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword made $6.8 million, given this was to be the start of a new franchise the future is looking pretty bleak for it to happen. The movie has only reached $99 million worldwide. It would need a foreign boost that Warcraft had to make a profit.
Next weekend Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 take on the holiday weekend. The long weekend could give Guardians and Alien: Covenant a boost since most people may have not had the time to watch. Â The final trailers for The Mummy and Transformers: The Last Knight have been released. Just click the links to see them.
