Ori and the Blind Forest is one of Microsoft’s stand out IP’s. Following a long portfolio of shooters, sequals, and racing games, Ori and the Blind Forest offered a return to a genre long forgotten to Xbox owners. As a Metroidvania Ori and the Blind Forest presented gamers a beautifully rich game in terms of looks and mechanics. Not only were a lot of the assets hand painted, the mechanics were fine tuned to give players a pixel perfect platforming experience. Overall Ori and the Blind Forest gave the Xbox portfolio a Studio Ghibli-esque game to call their own.

Today Microsoft is giving away the expansion to the critically acclaimed game to owners of the base game. The definitive edition includes many additions and fixes such as more abilities, more story content, full back tracking support new secrets and more. If you enjoyed the regular version of the game it would be a no brainer to upgrade to the definitive edition for free, after all, there is no telling if the upgrade will go back to being 5 dollars.
