A sprinkling of Marvel casting rumours today, as with the prospect of another Spider-Man movie on the horizon the studio have been re-casting major roles (again!). It was last month that the first and obviously most major character casting was announced, being that of English actor, Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Now, however, it seems that Sony and Marvel have turned their gaze towards Spider-Man’s moral compass and carer, and made an offer to Oscar Winning actress Marisa Tomei for the role of Aunt May. Whilst known for her roles in The Ides of March, The Wrestler and My Cousin Vinny (It was for her role in this that she won an Oscar), she’s largely steered clear of major Hollywood blockbusters. She will however have a recurring role on Fox’s TV show Empire
The internet needless to say was abuzz with talk about the casting, and it came as a surprise to many, as in the comics Aunt May is often portrayed as an elderly woman closer to 70 or 80. Amusing reactions ensued which are posted below:
Aunt May is… Um, never thought I'd say this. But… Aunt May is kind of…. Someone say it for me dammit. pic.twitter.com/juRPvJqNYZ

Marisa Tomei to play Aunt May in new Spiderman reboot. Gonna be so awkward when Aunt May is way hotter than Mary Jane.

In the Ultimate Marvel reboot of Spider-Man Aunt May is most likely closer to late 40s in age and much can be done these days in the way of hair and make-up trickery, if that’s what the director wants to do. It was also rumoured that Marisa Tomei could cameo alongside Tom Holland in next year’s Captain America: Civil War. The year-after’s solo Spidey movie will be directed by Jon Watts and produced by Kevin Feige who will co-produce with Amy Pascal as per Sony and Marvel’s licensing agreement.
The as yet untitled Spider-Man solo movie will be coming to the big screen in 2017 and for more Marvel, movie, TV and gaming news stick right here on TiCGN!
