The alien invasion 2.0 just couldn’t stop Finding Dory from staying on top of the box office this weekend. Independence Day: Resurgence opened with an estimated $41.6 million this weekend. Finding Dory took the top spot again this week with $73 million is ticket sales reaching $285.6 million total sales. With a holiday weekend coming up it seems that Finding Dory could possibly take the top spot again.
Independence Day: Resurgence brings back most of the cast from the original Independence Day except Will Smith. The movie finds Earth in another fight for survival twenty years after the War of 1996. I personally thought the movie would make more in its first week, the one thing this movie has though is the Fourth of July weekend is a great time for people to catch up on any movie that have been released in the past few weeks. Reviews for Independence Day: Resurgence have not been so kind, Rotten Tomato has the movie currently sitting at 33%.
The other movie released this weekend The Shallows actually did really well. The movie exceeded expectations with a $16 million opening weekend. The Shallows has already matched the movies budget, so now anything made will be all profit for this Blake Lively film. I myself will not be watching this movie due to the fact I just can’t hang with Shark movies anymore.
