TiCGN Box Office Recap: Lucky Logan Fails as Hitman’s Bodyguard Takes the Weekend

August is really starting to turn into an awful month for movie studios. In another slow weekend at the box office, only one movie made any money over $20 million. Hitman’s Bodyguard grossed $21.6 million in its opening weekend.

The Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson movie made a huge splash at the domestic box office. This movie grossed more than what the studio was expecting. Annabelle: Creation continued to print money for its studio as it grossed $15 million, bringing the total to $160 million worldwide. The movie that disappointed this weekend was Lucky Logan. Starting at third place with a measly $8 million, this movie is a huge disappointment given that Lucky Logan had a higher rating at Rotten Tomatoes than Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Weekend Top Five

5. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature $5 million

4. Dunkirk $6.7 million

3. Lucky Logan $8 million

2. Annabelle: Creation $15.5 million

1. Hitman’s Bodyguard $21.6 million

Personally, I just feel like the last month of August won’t produce a movie in the top three. Everyone’s gone back to school and the summer season is really over. With one shining, evil face coming to save the box office in September, fall should be fantastic. The movie It is expected to do some great things as it hits theaters on the 8th. Now as that month progresses, look for American Assassin, Kingsman 2, and a Lego Ninjago movie.

As for trailers that fit my readers, well we didn’t have many. You can watch the new International trailer for the third Thor movie, The Monster Project, or a live action version of Tokyo Ghoul. Next Friday, don’t forget to check out Netflix and the live action version of Death Note as it hits the streaming service on August 25th. Enjoy the start of the week even after that episode of Game of Thrones.
