Gambit Loses Director

Marvel’s ragin’ cajun just can’t seem to catch a break. After a rumour surfaced last month that the upcoming X-Men spin-off almost lost its lead actor, Channing Tatum,  the film is now  confirmed to have lost its director.

Rupert Wyatt, who directed 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, has released this statement: “I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film. ”

The Wrap is reporting that the movie has been troubled from the start and that script and/or budget issues may have been the reason that Wyatt left.

Production on Gambit was to begin imminently, but it has been pushed back to early 2016. This may result in the film being moved out of its October 2016 release date and into 2017, perhaps into the spot that Fantastic Four 2 is currently in as that movie is looking increasingly unlikely.
