Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star Will Be on Switch

XSEED and Marvelous Europe are bringing their English version of Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star to the Nintendo Switch. This edition of the game will include all previous DLC, even the former bonuses exclusive to digital pre-orders. Furthermore, the game will have an additional “Unshackled Bride” costume for Red Saber.

The game takes place in a world similar to yet slightly different than that of Fate/EXTRA. After winning the Moon Cell’s Holy Grail War, the quiet protagonist was chosen to rule the virtual world along with their Servant. However, another version of the protagonist soon appears with another Servant and the same authority to rule. The two then battle for control while commanding an army. Meanwhile, a third faction musters its forces for an assault on the entire Moon Cell.

The game feature fairly standard 3D hack and slash combat. It also has a territory control aspect. Players will need to capture enough lands of sufficient value to force the enemy boss to spawn. At the same time, enemies will periodically invade the player’s territories if not dealt with in a timely manner.

Naturally, as a Fate title, EXTELLA has a roster of playable heroes from the franchise. Red Saber, Altera, and the fox-eared Caster each have their own arc in the main story. The rest of the cast only have short side stories, but they are still available for free play.

The North American version of Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star will be available for Switch on July 25, 2017. The European version will release a few days earlier on July 21st. For those interested in the original Japanese version, it will be on Switch starting July 20th. XSEED will be showing off the title at E3 2017.
