A Third Wave of Nintendo Selects is Coming!

You know how Nintendo has been discounting particular video games every now and then via their “Nintendo Selects” label? Well, there’s going to be a new wave of these discounts coming later in the month. This will mark the third time since 2011 Nintendo Selects surface onto store shelves. Nintendo Selects replaced the Player’s Choice label that big-selling games had on the Nintendo Gamecube and other systems prior. For several games early on the year we saw a second run featuring games for Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

So what are the latest games to be marked down to $19.99 on August 26th? Well…

(Please note: The highlighted product descriptions are lifted from Amazon. As such, clicking on it will take you to the respective game’s Amazon page)

Animal Crossing: New Leaf Box Art

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Just in time for its late amiibo implementations, Animal Crossing: New Leaf joins its predecessor, Animal Crossing: City Folk, as a Nintendo Selects title.

“Welcome to Animal Crossing, where as mayor of your own town you make the decisions that shape your town and your life. Experience a living, breathing world where new friends and new discoveries await every day, morning, noon and night. Express yourself by customizing your character, your house and your town as you create your own ideal world. Expand and extend your Animal Crossing experience with the Animal Crossing Plaza application for the Wii U console! Post messages and attach screenshots of your Animal Crossing: New Leaf moments and learn about new characters and in-game tips.”

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Box Art

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

New to the Nintendo Selects lineup is the sequel to Luigi’s solo starring role. This is my personal favorite of this lineup.

“Help Luigi overcome ghastly ghosts, mind-melting puzzles, and his own clumsiness in an all-new spooky adventure. Armed with his trusty Poltergust 5000—a ghost-catching vacuum cleaner—and all the courage of a wet napkin, the green-hatted hero needs your help to battle through five massive mansions full of hidden passages and bone-chilling challenges. Whether you’re charging up the new strobe light to stun a slime-tossing Gobber ghost, revealing illusions with the new Dark Light Device, or reeling in multiple poltergeists with timely button presses, you’ll need to use all of your paranormal survival skills.”

Tomodachi Life Box Art

Tomodachi Life

Yep! The game that kicked off the comedically robotic Mii voices and super-bizarre situations like rap battles is here as well!

“Make Miis of your favorite people and watch surprising things happen. What happens when friends, family, and celebrities become Mii characters and live on an island? Tomodachi Life—that’s what—and it’s exactly the type of crazy that memories are made of! Give Mii characters items, voices, and personalities, then watch as they rap, rock, eat donuts, fall in love, get denied, and have little Mii babies. Wait…WHAT?!”

Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins Box Art

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins

Here’s the portable LEGO game you won’t ever find on another handheld! This is because Nintendo themselves published this one. Because Traveler’s Tales developed the game you can still expect the usual LEGO game flavor.

“Find out how the story of Chase McCain begins. Chase McCain is on his first assignment as a police offer–and it’s up to you to help him clean up LEGO City! By changing into different disguises, Chase has access to unique abilities, such as putting out fires as a Fireman and breaking open doors as a Robber. With multiple areas of LEGO City to explore and a boatload of LEGO Bricks and Studs to collect, the ‘chase’ has most certainly begun.”

nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends Box Art

Nintendogs + Cats (Golden Retriever)

I bet it’s been a while since you’ve seen this name pop up. Nintendogs indeed has installments on the 3DS and this edition of the virtual pet simulation lineup adds cats among other features.

“Nintendogs’ puppies are back in the palm of your hand in Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever and New Friends for the Nintendo 3DS system. This new, special game features even cuter and more expressive puppies and, for the first time, kittens. The fun from the original nintendogs game returns, with multiple breeds to choose from, accessories for your puppies and kittens to wear, and the ability to let your puppies and kittens train and compete in different challenges and activities. In addition, Nintendo 3DS functionality expands gameplay in a variety of ways, for example: the built-in player facing camera allows pets to recognize you and react accordingly.”

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Box Art

The Legend of Zelda: Wink Waker HD

Another remake of a fabled entry in the Legend of Zelda series gets the Nintendo Selects treatment! Good thing too, the Wii U remake was even pricier than the Gamecube original.

“The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker makes its glorious return on the Wii U console with gorgeous HD graphics and enhanced game features. In this timeless classic with a unique and colorful art style, you will guide Link as he sets out on the massive Great Sea to find his kidnapped sister. Sail the seas in search of lost islands, fight fearsome enemies, take on mighty bosses, and seek out the legendary Triforce.”

Lego City Undercover Box Art

LEGO City Undercover

Another expensive Wii U title brought down to a more reasonable price. Recognize this one? Of course Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins wouldn’t be in this wave by itself!

“LEGO® City comes to life, only on the Wii U™ system! The popular LEGO City vehicles and play sets come to life for the first time in the vast, open world of the LEGO® City: Undercover game. As police officer Chase McCain you are armed with clever disguises, special abilities, and the ultimate crime-fighting tool—the Wii U GamePad controller. With its indispensable map, communicator, and high-tech scanning device, the Wii U GamePad is just what you need to crack the case. Run, drive and even fly through the city to put a stop to the fiendish Rex Fury and end his crime wave once and for all.”

Nintendo Land Box Art

Nintendo Land

The game that served to demonstrate what the Wii U is all about. Nintendo Land comes back in a reduced price for the final offering in the Nintendo Selects promotional wave.

“Experience Nintendo’s greatest game worlds in one giant theme park! Nintendo Land is a fun and lively virtual theme park filled with attractions based on popular Nintendo game worlds. Each attraction features unique and innovative gameplay experiences made possible by the Wii U GamePad controller. Depending on the attraction, players can play solo, compete against other players, or even team up to play cooperatively. Up to five players can participate in dynamic multiplayer modes in select attractions. The experiences change depending on whether players are using the GamePad, a Wii Remote controller, or just watching others play on the TV screen. Multiplayer modes require additional accessories required, which are sold separately.”
