Despite the performance of the last film in the series, Sony is not about to give up on the Ghostbusters framchise. An all new adventure is coming to theaters next year and it’s called Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The first trailer for the film dropped today and you can watch it for yourself below:
Those of you with an acerbic sense of humor like yours truly might be tempted to call this one Ghostbusters: The Next Generation and we would not be entirely wrong. It seems that one of the original Ghostbusters – Egon Spangler – hoarded his proton pack and the rest of his ghostbusting gear beneath his old mansion. After his passing the property is inherited by his daughter, Calli, who is now a single mother to a young girl named Phoebe (McKenna Grace) and a son named Travis.
Now where in the Hell did Callie come from? The math does not quite work out for Egon to have a granddaughter of Phoebe’s age (unless this new movie is set a few years into the future.) Do Peter and Ray know about Callie? I guess we will find out next year when Ghostbusters: Afterlife premieres.
The trailer continues with Phoebe discovering her grandfather’s old gear and the iconic Ecto-1 car. Phoebe’s science teacher (Paul Rudd) rounds out this new generation of Ghostbusters.
The film is produced by Ivan Reitman who worked on the original movie from 1984. His son, Jason Reitman, serves as director and co-wrote the script with Gil Keenan.
