TiCGN Box Office Recap: Pirates of the Caribbean Takes the Long Weekend

This three day holiday in the states usually gives people a chance to see some of the movies bigger movies that have been released for the past few months. Two movies with a large cast and some big named actors where released this weekend. Only one of those movies actually made it to the top, Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales has made an estimated $77 million at the box office. This puts it right above the first movie in opening weekend sales. The Curse of the Black Pearl opened with $46 million back in 2003 and Stranger Tides opened with $90 million in 2011. Overall this tale of Jack Sparrow against a ghost ship is going to make Disney some money. It has done better then Baywatch in the box office, dropping to third behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Baywatch only made $23 million this weekend. It is not looking good for these movies that are based of older tv shows. CHiPS barely scratched $25 million for it’s entire box office run.

Weekend Top Five

5. Everything, Everything $6 million

4. Alien: Covenant $10.5 million

3. Baywatch $23 million

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 $25 million

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales $77 million

If you look at the top five list you will notice that this years movies are just not brining in the crowds. Alien: Covenant will not be making a huge dent an Guardians is the only summer blockbuster at this point. Currently the movie has made $788 million so far making it the third highest grossing movie right behind Fate of the Furious.

Next week the DC Comics film Wonder Woman will be making her appearance and it just brings us all one step closer to the Justice League movie. The animated film Captain Underpants is also being released next weekend. It should be no problem for Wonder Woman to take first place while Guardians and Pirates of the Caribbean should finish out the top three.

In the world of recent trailers Spider-Man: Homecoming has released a third trailer. The comedy featuring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Daniel Craig has a trailer. You can watch that trailer for Lucky Logan by clicking the link here.
