The Upside Tackles Aquaman for Number One at the Box Office This Weekend

The King of the sea was knocked off of his throne this weekend. The highest grossing movie was The Upside featuring Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston, and Nicole Kidman; it grossed an estimated $19.5 million in its opening weekend. Not all is lost for Aquaman as it crossed the billion dollar mark. Aquaman brought in roughly $17 million this weekend. This is the highest grossing DC Universe movie around the world. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was close with $873 million worldwide. I still feel like this is the second phase in the DC Universe and everything is looking up.

The three movies that opened in a wide number of theaters this weekend where The Upside, Replicas, and A Dog’s Way Home. Only two of these movies made enough money at the Box Office to make it into the top three. One movie started the year off as the first of official Box Office bomb of 2019. Replicas had an opening weekend with an estimated $2.5 million. January is the month that movies go to die in the box office. It could see a second life on a streaming service or DVD. The hype for John Wick Chapter 3 is still going. It’s definitely one of the top movies I want to watch this year.

Domestic Weekend Top Three

3. A Dog’s Way Home $11.3 million

2. Aquaman $17.2 million

  1. The Upside $19.5 million

The first big movie of the year is Glass. The third film in the Unbreakable series is set to be released in over three thousand theaters. The movie will be coming out on the 18th. The reviews for the movie are mixed. I still need to watch Split at some point in my life so I may have to wait to see this third movie. One of the most interesting horror movies I watched in the past three years was Happy Death Day. The second movie is coming out very soon. Happy Death Day 2U features the same cast as the first film and from the trailer it looks like it starts right after the events of the first movie.
