Many Xbox fans are eagerly anticipating Quantum Break, a new Xbox one exclusive IP from the makers of Alan Wake. The news that the game would be delayed until April of 2016 was disappointing but not entirely unexpected. After all, Alan Wake took years to develop and at least in my opinion Remedy Entertainment deserves the benefit of the doubt.

In an interview with Edge magazine and reported by GamesRadar, Remedy Entertainment’s Creative Director, Sam Lake, explained the reason for Quantum Break’s delay- a commitment to quality.

Yes, we want to keep the quality high, so we don’t want to make certain kinds of compromises, and are always making sure that this is iterated enough and polished enough and it’s as good as it deserves to be.”

In addition to the difficulties of filming episodes of a television series for the first time, Lake described the challenges of the studio acclimating itself to a new console, developing new game mechanics, establishing new characters and a new in-game universe and making sure Quantum Break is the best game the studio can deliver.

“It’s many things. Just thinking about Quantum Break, as an example, there’s a lot of new technology, a new platform, it’s a new universe, new story, there’s new core gameplay. a lot of prototyping, and a lot of discovery”, Lake said during the interview. “On the whole show side, there are a lot of challenges to figure out. It does end up taking time and, yes, we want to keep the quality high, so we don’t want to make certain kinds of compromises, and are always making sure that this is iterated enough and polished enough and it’s as good as it deserves to be.”

Quantum Break is scheduled to release on April 5th, 2016.
