The Last Of Us Part II Will Have Multiplayer Despite Rumors Stating Otherwise

It is a safe bet that The Last of Us Part II is one of if not the most anticipated upcoming game from PlayStation’s first party studios. Now along with anticipation, there are always rumors that fly around about these massive games. Many simply are fabricated by unknown users on forums and sites such as ResetEra, NeoGaf, Reddit, etc. Some may be half truths, and even on the most rare occasion a rumor turns out to be true. Sony has been very tight lipped about The Last of Us Part II which of course leads to many people to speculate into insane territory.

Over the past week there has been a rumor circulating in regards to the Multiplayer aspect of the Last of Us Part II. For those that may not know, while many people speak about how much of a game changer the story was when The Last of Us came out in 2013. However, what some people may not realize is that the multiplayer still to this day, 6 years later has a sizable following. This is why some fans have become concerned about a rumor circulating that The Last of Us Part II won’t feature multiplayer. This all started because a Reddit user Toochuy who had recently purchased a Days of Play PS4, looked at the fine print on the bottom of the box and saw a disclaimer that Days Gone, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man and The Last of Us Part II do not support online multiplayer.

Now, while many people have dismissed this as a simple misprint some news sites have run with this story. Because of this, many fans are confused on what could possibly be going on with The Last of Us Part II multiplayer mode. However, if you do a little digging you would discover there is a mountain of facts that disprove this.

The first major fact is the fact that Naughty Dog themselves confirmed that Factions (the name of The Last of Us multiplayer mode) would be in the game during E3 2018. During an interview with Polygon the game’s co-director Anthony Newman he made it very clear that the game would have a multiplayer mode.

“There is going to be multiplayer with the game,” Newman said. “We’re really excited to share details about it, but that’s going to be at a later date.”

The next most glaring fact that seems to completely derail this rumor is the fact that Naughty Dog themselves have actively been posting job positions to work on the multiplayer aspects of the game. As seen in this tweet from the official Naughty Dog Jobs twitter, it clearly states that these positions are related to The Last of Us Part II.

Within this listing alone we can clearly see that they are searching for quality assurance testers, as well as multiplayer server, and gameplay programmers. This job posting is recent as well, as of June 2019. This means there is very little chance that the multiplayer portion was canceled between E3 2018 and now.

In my mind, this evidence provides more proof to the existence of The Last of Us Part II‘s multiplayer. As rumors continue to circulate around highly anticipated titles, it is important to take these rumors with a grain of salt.
