The Grudge Fails to Scare up an Audience

This past weekend the horror movie The Grudge was released. The Grudge is a reboot that no one needed, it failed to gross more than $15 million, it brought in an estimated $11.3 million. Frozen II grossed just a little less than this movie in its seventh week. That shows almost the same amount of people wanted to rewatch a children’s movie, then watch the newest movie at the theater.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker took the top spot this weekend. I did call it last week, there really was no competition this weekend. It grossed an estimated $33.7 million in its third weekend. The movie still has the opportunity to pass the billion mark in the next week. Jumanji: The Next Level continued to add money to its ever-growing final numbers. This movie grossed $26.5 million this past weekend, it continues to do well despite the fact it came out against Star Wars. It’s currently sitting at $610 million worldwide, just a little under what the second movie finished with at $962 million.

Weekend Top Three

3. Little Women $13.5 million

2. Jumanji: The Next Level $26.5 million

1. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker $33.7 million

Like a Boss, Underwater, Just Mercy, and 1917 all come out next week in a large number of theaters. The war movie 1917 had actually been out on a limited release, it grossed $2.2 million during that time. Hopefully, more people will take in a few of these movies. January is usually the graveyard for movies that just need to be released. What was your favorite movie that was released in 2019? What movies are you excited to see in 2020?
