There was no doubt that Marvel’s Spider-man by Insomniac Games was going to be a hit. With a huge Marvel fever due to the excellently executed Marvel cinematic universe, and brilliant marketing from Sony. Add all this to a beautifully polished and well-shown product by an amazing triple AAA studio and you have a recipe for success.
Spider-man is officially the fastest selling game this year in the UK, edging out previous record holder Far Cry 5 which was available on two more platforms for context. Spider-man also sold faster then PlayStations huge hit God of War, outpacing the game in an almost 2 to 1 ratio. Add on to the fact that is the fastest selling Marvel video game since LEGO Marvel Super Heroes by a massive margin.
This is the fastest selling game on the PS4 platform since Call of Duty: WWII which launched back in November of last year. When you consider the massive numbers that Call of Duty on a yearly basis, and how front-end heavy Call of Duty sales are this is great news for Spider-Man.
In an interesting bit of side news, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age which also launched this week managed to find success even with Spider-Man’s massive launch. Dragon Quest currently sits at number 2 in the UK charts. Good news all around for games that launched this week.
