SkyBox Labs Is Aiding the Development of Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite was unveiled in grand fashion at the Xbox E3 2018 conference. Touting gorgeous environments set on a Halo ring, all powered by the new Slipspace engine, details remain scare regarding this ambitious new entry in one of the biggest Xbox IPs. With that said, we’ve learned that 343 Industries won’t be shouldering this new game on their own. SkyBox Labs is aiding the development of Halo Infinite. SkyBox Labs will be helping with all aspects of development – the AI, gameplay, graphics and networking.

Shyang Kong, Co-founder of SkyBox Labs, said that “We have been working closely with 343 Industries on Halo projects for a number of years, and we’re thrilled to be part of this exciting time in Halo’s history.” Steven Silvester, Co-founder of SkyBox Labs, added that “Seeing the new art style and the return of the Master Chief, combined with the technology of the Slipspace Engine, has our studio energized and focused on teaming up with our partners at 343 Industries to realize the vision of Halo Infinite.”

Chris Lee, Head of Halo FPS at 343 Industries, said that “343 Industries is excited to continue our partnership with SkyBox Labs on Halo Infinite, with their team doing great work across many areas of our project.”

SkyBox Labs is an independent development studio that has partnered with Microsoft on multiple occasions in the past. They co-developed Project Spark with Team Dakota and more recently developed Halo 5: Forge for Windows 10, as well as doing the Xbox One X enhancement patch for Halo 5: Guardians. With that kind of experience, it makes sense to bring them in as a partner studio.

Bringing an independent studio to help aid the process of making a game is nothing new but it’ll be interesting to see where the relationship between these studios goes from here. After all, Splash Damage helped The Coalition with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4. Now they’re heading up Gears Tactics as the lead development team.
