I have some pretty bad news for all of you who were waiting for the return of Re: Zero. Unforutanly Re: Zero season two has been delayed from its original release date that was scheduled for April.
The delay comes from the increasing concerns over the COVID-19 virus that has been spreading all over the world. We’ve already seen it with shows delaying individual episodes such as A Certain Scientific Railgun, so it was only a matter of time before seasons would be getting delayed. Here is a statement from the studio:
“Thank you very much for your great support for “Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”. The second phase of “Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”, which was scheduled to start broadcasting from April 2020, will be produced by a new type of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which is a global problem Since the schedule has been greatly affected, we have to postpone the broadcast start. Currently, we are planning to broadcast from July, so if the details of the broadcast date and time are decided, we will inform you again.
“We sincerely apologize to all the fans who are looking forward to their work for their concern and inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding. March 9, 2020, Re: Life in a Different World Production Committee Starting from Zero”.
Japanese studios are already overworked and the viruses putting most territories on lockdown it’s going to become harder to keep up with the demand of animating shows. So look for more series to be delayed in the months to come. I know most of you were looking forward to the return of the series in April just like me, but as we can all agree the safety of the artist and animators come first. Let us know your thoughts on the delay in the comment section below. However, if you are looking to scratch that itch you have Crunchyroll does have the directors cut of the first season of the series that is airing right now, with some new never before scenes. So you can watch that until the second season arrives.
