Resident Evil 2 Has Crossed 4 Million Copies Shipped

Resident Evil 2 has been out for about a month and it seems to be doing quite well. In a press release, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 2 has crossed 4 million copies shipped. They also confirmed that the Resident Evil franchise has passed 90 million copies sold.

The Resident Evil franchise features survival horror games in which players utilize a variety of weapons and other items to escape terrifying situations. Cumulative sales of the games in the series now total 90 million units* since the first title debuted in 1996. More than 20 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it one of Capcom’s flagship game series.

Capcom had previously announced that Resident Evil 2 crossed 3 million copies shipped in its first week, so it looks like sales momentum is continuing. The Ghost Survivors free DLC that was released has no doubt helped keep players engaged. According to the NPD group, Resident Evil 2 was the second-highest selling game on for the January 2019 NPD charts.
