Alan Wake originally released on Xbox 360 all the way back on May 14, 2010. The game was critically successful achieving an 83 on Metacritic and sold over 4.5 million copies as of 2015. Unfortunately, this was not enough success for Microsoft to invest in a sequel, Remedy then went on to develop Quantum Break which released in 2016. Alan Wake developed a strong and vocal cult following in regards to their desire for a sequel to the 2010 game. This seems to have fallen on deaf ears at Microsoft, however, fans may have a reason to celebrate now.

It was revealed today in a report by gamesindustry.biz that the publishing rights for Alan Wake have reverted back to Remedy. What could this mean, you might ask? With both ownership of the IP and the publishing rights, Remedy could pursue a sequel or a remaster/remake if they could drum up the funding. With Remedy’s newest project Control launching this August, it is safe to say it is an exciting time to be a fan of Remedy’s work. The possibility of an Alan Wake remaster on all platforms, or a sequel is very exciting news. We can now only wait and see what Remedy will do now that the ball is safely in their court so to speak.
