Hot off of Hannibal and a recent casting in Star Wars: Rogue One, It looks like Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to be the lead villain in Doctor Strange. Quite a number of actors have already been cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The information comes in via Variety whose sources claim that although talks are well under way Marvel has not yet made a final offer. Marvel had previously been interested in Mikkelsen playing Malekith in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, however he instead took the role of Hannibal Lecter in ABC’s Hannibal. Whilst that show has now been cancelled after 3 mildly successful seasons, Mikkelsen has landed various roles in big upcoming blockbusters most notably Star Wars: Rogue One.
Doctor Strange will follow the adventures and origin of the former neurosurgeon Doctor Vincent Strange (Blueberry Crumblebatch). After a car accident maims his hands he goes on a quest for healing and eventually trains in the art of magic with The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). The film will be helmed by Scott Derrickson, who previously directed Sinister, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
