Pokémon GO Is Having a Party for Its First Anniversary

The Pokémon GO Twitter account has finally given players an inside look into what will be happening for the one year anniversary of the game. A mix of online and live events will take place along with some new features coming to gyms.

Starting on June 13th, players will see more Fire-Type and Ice-Type Pokémon as the Solstice Festival starts. This event will also give more XP for accurate Pokéball throws. Furthermore, Lucky Balls will be discounted in the store again. They have yet to announce the end date for this event, so hopefully it will be about a week or longer. The short weekend events like the last Grass event are just too short.

Sometime during or after this event, Niantic will be updating the game with some new Gym features. So, at some point gyms will be unavailable for players to use. Once the gyms become available again, players will regain full use of their Pokémon.

Expect some live events also to happen during the celebrations. First off, we have Pokémon GO Fest happening in Chicago, Illinois at the Grant Park on July 22nd. Click here to buy tickets to that event when they become available on June 19th. Also, Europe and Japan will be getting something as well. This was taken from the Pokémon Go Blog:

European Trainers can look forward to Pokémon GO celebrations hosted across the continent from June through September in partnership with Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers. We’ll be posting a complete schedule for these events very soon. Also, The Pokémon Company is organizing “Pikachu Outbreak”, a Pokémon event in Yokohama, Japan, in August where they’re exploring a unique Pokémon GO experience.

As you can see, players will have plenty to do over the next few weeks while we all celebrate the first year of Pokémon GO.
