Cyberpunk 2077 will be a cross generation game. If you are struggling to choose between buying the upcoming game on the current Xbox One console or wait to play an enhanced version on the uber powerful Xbox Series X when it launches later this year? It turns out that you have nothing to worry about. Developer CD Projekt Red has announced gamers who purchase the Xbox One version of the game will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version when it is released. You can check out a tweet confirming this from the official Cyberpunk Twitter account below.
Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades. Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available. https://t.co/nfkfFLj85w

Interestingly enough, CD Projekt Red made the Cyberpunk 2077 announcement while retweeting a statement from Microsoft about the official Xbox Series X specifications. One interesting tidbit from Microsoft’s announcement was a tidbit about “Smart Delivery”. This feature will automatically choose the best version of the game for whichever console you are using. For example, if you buy an Xbox Series X console and you happen to own Cyberpunk 2077, your new console will download the version of the game that takes advantage of the system’s superior capablities.
On the other hand, if your primary television is in use by a family member and you play the game on a regular Xbox One S, you will not have to download 4k texture packs or any other assets that the older console cannot use. It is safe to say that your game saves will carry over from one platform to another.
Cyberpunk 2077 will not be the only game to take advantage of this Smart Delivery feature. All 15 of Microsoft’s internal Xbox studios will also support the feature. This means that buying any of Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One games will automatically entitle you to free upgrades for the Series X console if you choose to get one.
