New Play at Home initiative gives you free games and helps developers

The fine folks over at Sony would like to help you out while you continue to shelter in place during this COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, thanks to the newly announced Play at Home initiative you can score some free PS4 games that are yoursmto keep. Even better, game developers who are struggling financially due to this global crisis may be able to get some assistance from a $10 million fund set up by Sony especially for them.

If you are reading this article then you are probably interested in the free games so let’s go over those right away. The first title is actually a collection of three highly acclaimed games. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection includes Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and of course, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. All three of these games were originally developed for the PlayStation 3 but have been remastered to look as great as they possibly can on your PS4. If you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you can also get Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End as one of your free games this month. That puts all of the Nathan Drake games developed by Naughty Dog on the same console.

The other free gane you can expect from SIE’s Play at Home initiative is Journey. I feel that this is probably a fantastic time to experience the enigmatic yet serene beauty of this quest taken with mysterious benefactors.

Both of these titles will be available through the Play at Home initiative on April 15th through May 5th. You can download the games digitally for free from the PlayStation Store on your console or you can get them through a web browser if you prefer.

It is no secret that some of the smaller game development studios were struggling financially even before the Coronavirus epidemic. The Play at Home initiative also includes up to $10 million USD to provide assistance for some of Sony’s game development partners. Details on how game developers can apply for these funds will be revealed soon.
