New Atari Console Incoming

Atari, one of the founding fathers of console gaming is looking to reform its image in the gaming space. Years ago Atari would help create the world of living room video game entertainment. Hits like Asteroids, Pong and Centipede would amass a following and create revenue for an unproven industry. And then Atari nuked it with the game adaption of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Thankfully Nintendo would later resurrect the faulting industry but it seems as though Atari isn’t quite done with the console side of gaming just yet.

According to technology based newsite VentureBeat CEO of Atari Fred Chesnais has confirmed work on a new console. The video Atari provided a few days ago hints at the new device with a codename of Ataribox. With the stiff competition currently going on in industry, news of a 4th major league competitor in the console space seemed less than reputable but now it’s confirmed.

“We’re back in the hardware business,”  said Chesnais as he dodged certain questions in his interview. Little was revealed by the CEO of the famed studio. All we know is that the console is “based on PC technology” and that they are “still working on the design and will reveal it at a later date.” Whether or not it’s a system the style of a NES Classic Edition remains to be seen but with word on how the console is based on PC technology our guess is that it may be something more powerful.
