Miyazaki Says Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Has Things Beyond Human

In an interview with Edge magazine (September 2018, issue #322), Hidetaka Miyazaki, President of From Software, went into detail about many aspects for From Software’s upcoming game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. First revealed at the Xbox E3 2018 conference, this game is a departure in some ways from past titles like Dark Souls or Bloodborne. If you were concerned that you’d be facing only human enemies in the game, fear not, as Miyazaki says that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has things beyond human later in the story.

Miyazaki talked about the setting, saying “Of course it’s important to retain a sense of faithfulness, but we’re not trying to make a historical depiction of the Sengoku era. While we explored more drastically fantastical elements in our previous games, we want to approach this with a little more dignity this time – a little more carefully maybe.”

Remaining somewhat vague about the exact nature of the game’s foes, Miyazaki said that “But, rest assured, you’re not just going to be fighting humanoids the whole way through. There are going to be some things beyond human, even a little supernatural, hidden within this world. In order to make these fantastical, mystical, or even grotesque beings seem even more so, the initial groundwork is a lot more realistic.”

With a more direct story and other interesting developments, I can’t wait to see what else From Software has in store. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is releasing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2019.
