Over one year ago Phil Spencer announced the Xbox Elite controller, a device made with features that would appeal to competitive gamers and a myriad of customization options. The Elite controller was released on the same day as Halo 5: Guardians and was regarded favorably by most gamers who were lucky enough to get their hands on one. In fact, the Elite controller quickly sold out at first and several weeks went by before Microsoft was able to produce enough to meet the demand. While some balked at the $150 price tag, the controller has obviously been a success for Microsoft and it is rumored they are working on more Elite products such as a mouse and keyboard.

A recent tweet from the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, shows just how successful the Xbox Elite controller really is. Microsoft has produced over a million of them and the specific controller that broke this milestone was engraved and presented to Spencer.

Later this year Microsoft will introduce the first limited edition Elite controller based on Gears of War 4. There has been no word about future limited edition Elite controllers but Microsoft loves making special edition consoles and accessories so it is a definite possibility that Halo, Forza or other franchises might see their own controller.

Personally, I love using my Elite controller and find it difficult to go back to stock controllers without my preferred settings. Ideally we will one day be able to create custom Elite controllers from the Xbox Design Lab.
