Nintendo dropped a new trailer for the upcoming RPG Octopath Traveler. Come watch it with us:
A fair amount of new information was revealed int his trailer so let’s go over it, bit by bit.
The new Octopath Traveler trailer begins by showing us two new characters. The first is H’aanit, the hunter. She can literally call on wild beasts to assist her. Have you ever played an RPG with an obnoxious character blocking the way to somewhere you need to be? Well, H’aanit has a nifty solution for that. Let her scare off people standing in your way which will open up new story paths for you to explore.
The second new character is Therion, the thief. As you can imagine, he can steal from just about every single NPC in the game. In fact, some items can only be obtained by stealing them and you just may open up a new story path if you get your hands on the right trinket.
There are plenty of instances sprinkled throughout Octopath Traveler that require you to decide upon either acting nobly or roguishly to complete your objective. For example, let’s say that you need a dagger carried by a certain NPC. The noble course of action would be offering to buy that dagger from the character. A noble action has no risk of failure. The problem is that many noble options will not be unlocked until your character has reached a certain level.
You can also choose to perform a rogue option. In this case, you would simply try to steal that dagger. There are no level requirements for rogue actions but there is a chance you will fail. If you do fail, your character will be caught during the act and your reputation in town will be diminished. Fail at enough rogue actions and your character will be regarded as a rather unsavory type. If you reach such a low point, pay the local barkeep to spread some good rumors about you and your reputation will improve.
Most quests in Octopath Traveler will have more than one path to resolution. An NPC with a needed item can be given another item in trade or you can fight them and take it for yourself.
Octopath Traveler is scheduled for a worldwide release on July 13th.
