Weekly Box Office: Last Jedi Almost Loses the Top Spot

Star Wars: The Last Jedi barely took the top spot this weekend as competition arises from the newest entry in the Jumanji franchise. Just under two million below The Last Jedi, Jumanj comes in second with the newcomer to the box office, Ferdinand, barely managing to make it into the top ten movies.

The Last Jedi grossed around $52 million this weekend bringing the world-wide total to $1.04 billion and bringing the domestic total to $517 million. This means Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the only movie to top Beauty and the Beast as the top domestic movie of 2017. Since the movie is still making money I doubt we will see a huge decline in sales for the next week.

With several new release we should see some shakeups for the top five movies next week. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle should take the number one spot next weekend due to the regular weekly decline. The fourth Insidious movie will be releasing on January 5th. That movie should be in the top three easily. All the Money in the World was released at number seven this weekend with $5.4 million. It could be said that the incidents with Kevin Spacey did not help the movie. Given that a new actor was forced to come in and film the scenes in a small amount of time so the movie wouldn’t get pushed back.. Expect more of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Star Wars: The last Jedi holding a spot on the top five. Hopefully everyone has a great end to 2017 and  a wonderful start to 2018.
