Halloween is only a couple of days away and it seems that the Saw franchise is back on top. Jigsaw beat out all the competition this weekend even if it didn’t make more than previous films in the franchise.
Jigsaw has opened this spooky weekend with an estimated $16 million. The movie has made $9.5 million in the foreign market bringing the world-wide total to $25.7 million. The budget was a measly $10 million, clearly Lionsgate has made their money back. It has been a long time since Saw was in the theater. This movie made $2 million more then the last Saw movie’s opening weekend. One of the biggest flops this year is the movie Suburicon featuring Matt Damon and directed by George Clooney. The movie only grossed $2.8 million this weekend. At one time those two names would have easily grossed over $10 million in the first weekend, it seems their star power is not what it once was. The third Thor movie has yet to have a domestic release, though the movie has already made $100 million in the rest of the world. It looks like this movie will easily take the top spot for most of November.
Weekend Top Five
5. Blade Runner 2049 $3.9 million
4. Happy Death Day $5 million
3. Geostorm $5.6 million
2. Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween $10
1. Jigsaw $16 million
Two movies will be getting a wide release this coming weekend. Thor: Ragnarok and A Bad Moms Christmas are both coming out in the first week of November. The past month has been relatively slow at the box office. It didn’t help that this weekend saw the second season of Stranger Things which released on Friday. I know I spent most of my free time watching that instead of thinking about what movies weere coming to the theater.
